Hmmmm...
http://www.youanimator.com/sweatbox/149772
Secondly: Our participation sucks! I was considering a weekly digest to remind people to visit but today I found a couple of sites that are doing exactly what this blog is intended to do; get a broad range of opinions.
http://www.youanimator.com (the sweatbox forum is specifically for work in progress)
http://www.11secondclub.com/forum/viewforum.php?id=9 (the personal work forum)
The point of this blog was to get a narrow range of opinions from people we know and trust but so far it hasn't worked so well. So maybe it's better to share our work on Facebook or the Facebook group, since most of us are friends there anyway.
But I also think it'd be a good thing for us to get involved in these two, existing communities, even though the vast majority of members seem to be AM grads. You guys seem to breed like rabbits :P But there are some working professionals involved as well, at least on the 11second club.
So we'll see if this blog survives but with less than five people using it on a regular basis, I'm not seeing much use in continuing it unless I can put a ton of effort into encouraging all 40+ of our class to actually participate.
Thoughts? Opinions? Silence?

Before character starts to speak I wanted to push that pose a bit further.I add some head movement and adjust camera a bit. And actually there is not lot of space to move camera without big changes to animation:(
I also try to fix hands to be more smooth.
There are still some things that I'm not happy, so I will try to polish it more.
all the best dudes

"The Suitcase" Second pass
Back to animation:
I'm getting pretty close to done with this one, after getting zero work done last week thanks to GDC/Gamescom. This week I'm back in the saddle.

Hi Guys!
Nice to see great posts here and especially so constructive feedback.
Here is one short clip that I started to work in the end of the workshop.
The idea behind this shot is that the guy has made some jokes and he's girlfriend hasn't understand them in the same way.
I wanted to do everything in the "blank" scene and in a long shot so that I have to animate the whole character.
Next pass I'll add some frames in the beginning so that everything doesn't start to happen so quickly. I'll also add some overlapping especially to the hands. I'll also fix the face and the lipsync.
Before I'll make another pass I would like ask what you guys think.

"The Suitcase" First pass
I wanted to do a short acting piece based on Alex's suitcase idea. Instead I did a 30 second one because I'm a big, dumb idiot. But I liked the idea.
First pass, "The Suitcase" from Ryan D on Vimeo.
(SPOILER ALERT/WATCH THE VIDEO BEFORE READING FURTHER!!!!)
I had all kinds of idea for gimmicks in this one. He sets down the gun, forgets it, gets shot in the back? Something in the suitcase eats him? It contains Marcellus Wallace's soul? Then I though, gimmicks are kind of cliche. How about an armed robbery and a murder? I like to think of this as a shady deal has gone sour and Goon wants that suitcase full of... well, something very valuable apparently. The Goon is Cicilian mobster and the victim (Norman; temp animation obviously) is another underworld goon. They're both bad people, so the shooting isn't so bad, right?

3rd pass of the Swing
Swing exercise, 3rd pass from Ryan D on Vimeo.
More tweaking, mostly with the first jump, the jump-down to swing and the landing. Thanks for the feedback, guys.
Diego, I see what you mean about the action being difficult and I agree but it's too far done to change it now; I'm going to have to accept a little bit of superheroics on Monkey Norman's part here.
It's close to the point now where I'll have to accept that this isn't the piece that's going to get me into Pixar :P I'm going to take a few days off from it but please, if you see any remaining, easy fixes, please let me know.

What do you like and what you dislike? Thanks a lot!

Minor updates
If this catches on outside our class, I'll make a separate list for other contributors.
Let's get it started in here...
So here is the first offering to the "Five Liters of Boxed Wine" Gods; the current pass of my swing exercise:
Gobelins Summer School 2010 Swing Exercise from Ryan D on Vimeo.
I'm going to take another pass at it in a few days but hey, critique away.
Sticking my neck out...
I've decided to leave the blog public in case other animators want to get involved but for now, I am only going to give author-rights to others people from the class. Anyone else who wants to share a video can just email me or another admin and have us post it.
I'm not sure if I want to keep this totally public because I have a very cynical view of faceless internet people but we'll give it a shot for now. We have options to make the blog private and/or to password protect the videos. I'm open to suggestions.
Anyone else who wants to be an admin, just send me your blogger ID and I'll hook it up.
